Dry-cleaning is generally a good thing. I mean, there are some environmental drawbacks to the proces. But, many dry cleaners are moving towards greener processes, and they do help you extend the life of your garments. Usually, the manufacture of a new product is more environmentally costly than to repair an object even through dubious means. It would be interesting to completely solve this conundrum, but instead, I?m going to get to the point of this article.
When you go to the dry cleaners, they always wrap your clothes in a plastic bag. If you dry clean a once a week, that can add up to some serious waste. You can give the plastic back to the dry cleaner and ask him or her to reuse the bag, but that bag will probably end up in the trash at some point.
A better alternative is to purchase a reusable garment bag. Three brands of garment bag have already been covered by Treehugger. They range in price from 10-55 bucks. If buying something isn't your style, why not make your own garment bag?
