Perfect Veggies for Fire Escape Gardeners

Mike Lieberman from Urban Organic Gardener presented a question to his blog readers: Which seeds should he order for his Brooklyn fire escape garden? I suggested a few plants to try, but his question got me thinking about other fire escape and balcony gardeners. The two things these gardeners have to contend with are limited space and (often) less than full-sun conditions for their gardens. With that in mind, here are a few suggestions for plants that are small enough to do well in a crowded fire escape, can take some shade, and still provide plenty of produce for the gardener.
