Planet Green regulars are surely familiar with Whale Wars. Now, those of you in the New York area are about to get the chance for a face-to-face interaction with the crew of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's flagship, the Steve Irwin.

From April 26 to 30, the Steve Irwin will be docked at Pier 59 of Chelsea Piers in the Big Apple. Fresh off another successful Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign, the ship is being prepared to take on the Mediterranean Bluefin Tuna industry. For 10 days, you can tour the Steve Irwin and/or be part of the onshore volunteer team. (Tours will run daily from approximately 10 am to 3 pm.)

What You Can Do

- Volunteer to staff the literature or merchandise table: sign up new members

- Volunteer to assist the crew members who will be leading tours of the ship and help keep tours together

- Volunteer to provide ship security, day and night positions available

- Take a tour of the Steve Irwin and tell your friends

- Help publicize the arrival of the Steve Irwin

- Help prepare and clean up before and after tours

The crew is also seeking vegan food donations.

No experience, no problem. Steve Irwin crew members will be available to help volunteers with questions from visitors and there will be a volunteer meeting/training a few days before the ship arrives. If interest, please send your name, phone number, email, and availability to nyc@seashephed.org.
