Soap seems like such an innocent part of our lives, right? In fact, it?s a relatively positive part of our lives. We use it to clean ourselves (and everything else) and clean is good. However, there are some aspects of soap that aren?t as innocent as we'd probably all like to think.
Most soaps contain chemicals and fragrances that can be harmful for the environment. Some of these chemicals have actually been proven to cause birth defects and damage to the liver for animals.
Anti-bacterial soaps are often times among the worst of the toxic culprits at work here. These soaps contain chemicals that are registered with the EPA as being pesticides-and we rub them all over our skin?! Luckily, there are ways to clean up without dirtying the environment. Here are some of your options:
- Vegetable Soaps. Not only are these environmentally friendly, but they leave you feeling just as fresh and clean as regular soap, too.
- Organic Soaps. These are also a great option and readily available online and at many stores.
- Make your own soap. There are plenty of recipes online for making your own soap. If you're making your own soap, you can greatly control exactly what goes in it AND you don't have to contribute waste through packaging.
Cleaning up shouldn't be a dirty process-in any respect. Help keep our planet clean by carefully choosing how you stay clean.
