Cut Back on Beauty Waste by Precycling
You already know about upcycling and recycling, but have you started precycling yet? At the most basic level, precycling is about choosing products that come in the least amount of packaging possible—and it's even better if that packaging is reusable. For many people, this means bringing their own silverware to replace plastic versions from take-out places, carrying a reusable bag, and reading magazines or newspapers online.
But how does that extend to beauty products? It's simple: That foundation that comes in a jar, wrapped in paper, in a box, in a bag—and with a separate applicator? No, thank you. And the eyeshadows in a case, in a box, wrapped in plastic, in a bag? Skip it. Data from SkinInc.com shows that U.S. consumers fall way behind the French when it comes to precycling beauty products, but we can still make up some ground. Buying the larger size perfume or gel cuts back on packaging, while keeping your makeup supplies to a minimum helps, too. If you just can't give up your beauty routine, look for brands that use recycled content for their packaging.
