Don't you ever catch a glimpse of a new outfit on a fashion runway and think, "Ok. I could make that myself."? God knows I do. Prada's new line of shoes for Fall 2009 are edgy—literally. With jagged cuts and rips, making my own Prada-inspired shoes is easy. All you need is a pair of scissors. That's all it takes to turn any old pair of boots into a pair stunningly similar to ones recently released by Prada.
The look above in the shoes I crafted is witchy, and witchy, in case you didn't get the memo, is in right now. The shoes center themselves around a jaggedly-cut look—not all that complicated to master yourself. I tried it myself and was nearly disturbed with how easy it was. Here's what I did:
1. Found an old pair of ankle boots.
2. With scissors, I cut the boots down a few inches.
3. I used scissors to cut jagged triangles along the upper edges of the boots.
So if you want, go ahead and waste your money and our resources on brand new shoes that are barely there. But if you want to get this look the cheap and green way, DIY it up and give Prada a run for their money. This kills two birds with one stone on the green frontier: it helps you reduce consumption of unnecessary new materials and it puts some of your outdated, out of commission shoes to work. Perfect!
