How to Make a Denim Purse Without Sewing

If you want to turn those old jeans into a purse, all you need is a pair of scissors.

Not everyone knows how to sew. And even some people who do know how to sew do not have a sewing machine (that would be me). So if you can put together an awesome denim purse without sewing a bit, why not? Sewing with a machine, which is preferred with denim, uses up energy anyway.

My male roommate recently had a pile of clothes he was preparing to throw out. Remembering that I'm green and crafty, he offered the bag of clothes to me for use in my multiple projects. I was delighted. I've wanted a neat denim purse for a while now, but I don't have a sewing machine. I sat on my couch staring at a pair of his old American Eagle jeans for a while before I orchestrated a sensible plan of action for the jeans.

To my surprise, the plan of how to turn his jeans into a new purse for me worked wonderfully.

How to turn Old Jeans into a Sew-Free Denim Bag:

1. Pick Your Jeans

Once you've picked your jeans, cut them off right below the zipper. Cut all the way across.

2. Fold and Cut

Fold both bottom sides of the cut-off denim toward the crotch—as if you're wrapping a gift. This will leave you with a triangular shape.

3. Creat a Hole At the bottom point of the triangle, work your way through each layer of denim with a pair of scissors, creating a hole that penetrates all the way through the denim at the point. Follow the same steps in order to make a hole at the opposite end of your triangle's point. 4. Cut Strands Cut two strands of denim fabric off from the legs of the jeans, which you previously cut off. String these strands through the holes you've created and tie each strand into a knot after its strung through its hole. 5. Make a Strap Cut a thick and long piece of denim from the length of the pant legs. This will be the strap for your purse. Once you have it cut, tie each end of it to a belt loop on either side of the purse. Enjoy! This is all you need to do in order to create a perfectly fun and cute purse some old jeans without sewing one bit.
