Walking through Union Square over the weekend, I was drawn to a table covered in pendants. They were all handmade, and all featured very straightforward images from nature—wildlife, tree branches, views of the ocean or mountains. And they were all beautiful.
The photographs were taken by the woman standing behind the table, Australian-born Sherie, who fits them onto pieces of wood that she salvages mostly from carpenter friends of hers who she says otherwise throw out their wood scraps. Or she just chops up old broomsticks.
She was showcasing images from majestic cloud formations to beautiful sunsets to a hawk feeding in tall grasses to herds of cows in northeastern Australia. She's taken photographs all over the world, but most come from near her home in upstate New York.
