A lot of people I know have dyed their hair neon colors. And a lot of those people have regretted it. Keeping an unnatural color, like, say...purple, takes more work to keep fresh-looking than a natural hair color.

If a person is dead-set on keeping a neon color in their hair, that person will typically buy boxes of dye frequently and expose their scalp to harmful chemicals way more often than necessary.

I suppose the truly green thing to do would be to not dye hair at all. However, there are a lot of levels to living green and one of the important things to do is prioritize and lessen the negative environmental impact of everything you do.

So if you're a fan of the neon hair coloring, rest assured, there is a way to make just one box of dye last much longer than you'd probably expect.

Follow these two steps and I guarantee that you'll see a difference:

1. Wash your hair as little as possible. Washing hair strips the color right out, so wash less! And hey, it's better for the environment, too! Washing you hair less frequently means saved water and chemicals. And, from all I hear, it's better for your hair's health, too.

2. Mix a teaspoon of your hair dye in with bottle of olive oil. Use this mixture as an intense conditioner once a week. Spread it evenly through your hair and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. This will help to keep your hair color's fresh and shiny without forcing you to buy conditioners or dye continually.

It's true. Even something as unnatural as neon hair color can be made green. And hey, why not?
