Lip gloss adds that perfect finishing touch, but many commercially produced lip glosses are full of chemicals, and I'm on a mission to avoid putting anything in or on my body that has ingredients in it that I cannot pronounce.
Forget the chemicals (and the money we waste on them) and make your own all-natural lip gloss at home. Your lips will be shiny and gorgeous, and you'll be doing something good for yourself.
Make Your Own Lip Gloss
The Herb Companion published a very simple, all-natural lip gloss recipe:
Mix 1 teaspoon of fresh aloe vera gel (you can buy aloe vera gel in health food stores, but if you grow aloe vera, you can simply slice open a leaf and scrap the gel from that) with 1/2 of a teaspoon of coconut oil and 1/8 of a teaspoon of vitamin E oil. Simply mix them all together until smooth, then pour into a clean container. You can use the mixture as soon as you'd like to.
You can make this a little more custom though, if you want. If you want colored lip gloss, mix in a tiny bit of your favorite lipstick (you may need to heat the mixture slightly so the lipstick melts and mixes right.) If you want flavored or scented lip gloss, add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil. A few ideas:
- Mint oil has a great fresh, invigorating scent that has been shown to help increase energy.
- Lavender oil is a lovely, soothing floral woodsy scent.
- Lemon verbena oil has a great, invigorating, lemony scent.
- Rose oil is floral and feminine.
Whether you decide to make a simple, straightforward version or a slightly fancier one, you can rest assured that you are doing a good thing for your lips by avoiding harsh chemicals and providing plenty of soothing and nourishment.
