Have a favorite beer? Sport a coin purse out of its case.
While drinking beer isn't always the greenest thing to do, that doesn't mean you're not allowed to drink. You have my permission to drink. As long as you do it responsibly. A huge responsibility of drinking alcohol actually lies in how you dispose of the packaging that comes along with alcohol consumption. With all those bottles, cans, and cardboard cases beer requires, any of these materials we can find creative ways to reuse, that's a good thing. If you're not sure where to start, here's an idea:
1. Locate your beer case
(I am not condoning, supporting, publicizing, advertising, or doing anything else to promote Negra Modelo beer, for the record. It's just what my roommate had in the recycling bin).
2. Cut out two folded portions of the cardboard of the same size.
3. Cut one of these pieces in half.
4. Sit both of these smaller pieces inside the fold of the larger piece.
Do this so that the smaller pieces provide for sides for what will become your coin purse. Glue these pieces to the inside of the larger piece. This will provide a pocket for your coins.
5. Make the holes
Put a single hole through both layers of the top of the purse and string any kind of fabric through to keep it closed. I used some spare leather I had lying around. This project is a perfect way to make a fashionable coin purse out of what would have otherwise been garbage. Tips: This isn't the kind of coin purse you want to get wet, because, you know, it's made of cardboard. But if you follow the same instructions with plastic from something like a milk jug and use a super strong adhesive, you can just as easily make a water resistant coin purse. The amount of coins you can fit into something like this depends on how big you make it, but the one featured in this post held 10 quarters, 5 dimes, 2 nickels, 5 pennies, and even a $5 peso.
