A truly important part of being green is conserving. It hardly matters what you're conserving because the further you can prolong buying something new, the more of a favor you're doing the planet. New things require production and pollution, so getting the most out of every new thing you buy is important.

I've got a good friend who works for Mac makeup and, by default, I have a lot of makeup lying around that she gives me every time she's in town. Yes, this is awesome. In fact, I never even wore makeup until I met her. But now that I have all of this nice makeup, I try to make it last as long as I can.

Here are some tips for conserving your makeup:

Eye shadow

Put something sticky on your eyelids before the eye shadow. Vaseline works wonderfully and so does olive oil. By doing this, you'll keep just a little bit of eye shadow lasting all day long and you'll end up using less in the end.

Concealer

If you've got a concealer stick, scrape it to the bone. Most people stop using their concealer sticks when they still have a week's worth of use left in them. If you use liquid concealer, add a little bit of water in it and shake it up when you're running low.

Lipstick

Much like concealer stick, lipstick can last a lot longer than you may think. When your stick is dying down, start using a lipstick brush to scrape out the remaining lipstick before you buy a new tube.

Mascara Sense that your mascara is running low? Put a few drops of olive oil in the tube and you'll get some extra use out of it. Powders Whether you're dealing with a dwindling face powder or blush powder, you can get more use out of it than you may suspect. Scrape it from the edges and powder on the remains. Don't buy new makeup until you've covered these bases! You'll help the environment and your wallet this way.
