The debate over what to do with old shirts is a long one. Even if you take measures not to throw them out and donate them to thrift stores instead, you're still contributing to the never ending and always mounting collection of secondhand clothes in this world. However, I have found that old shirts that I no longer want make for the coolest accessories…not to mention that they're easy to make and virtually free!
BAGS
You can turn an old shirt into a purse without even using a sewing machine. All that you have to do is cut the shirt open. Once it Is cut open, cut a long slice of fabric off of it. This will be your strap. Bring the rest of the fabric together in a bundle. At the top of the bundle, cut two holes on each side. String your strap through these holes and tie a knot for it at the top and there you go! Your old shirt is now a new purse.
SCARVES/HEAD BANDS
Turning your old shirt fabric into a head band or scarf is ridiculously easy. Just cut open your shirt and cut strips of fabric off of it. Tie these strips along your head or neck and you're set with a totally unique scarf or head band.
JEWELRY
With some earring hooks and necklace fasteners, your fabric from your old shirts can easily be converted into jewelry. You can glue your fabric around stones to make cool looking beads or just let it dangle. Either way, it's a perfect way to spice up any outfit.
