Less is more when it comes down to being green. Much of the idea is to reduce the use of resources and harmful energy (which uses largely non-renewable resources). Although it may not seem substantial to you, cutting out the use of hair appliances does make a difference, even if small. By styling your hair without all the heat, you'll not only be saving yourself on energy, but you'll also be able to donate the appliances you already have and with every donation comes one less purchase of a newly produced item. (That's a good thing!)
So achieve common hair styles without all of the fuss. By adopting some of the hair habits below, you'll be on your way to being greener with your hair.
Crimp
Why use a crimper? The crimped style is one of the easiest to achieve without any outside help.
1. Tie your hair in as many braids as you want. The smaller the braids, the tighter the crimp.
2. When your braids are all tied, dampen hair.
3. Let dry.
4. Remove braids.
Curl/Wavy
Certain types of curls and waves can only be achieved with the help of a curling iron, it's true. However, I encourage you to explore your hair and see what it's capable of. If I wrap my hair around my finger when it's damp, it works for curling! If I don't touch my hair when getting out of the shower, it dries wavy. Figure out what your hair can do naturally without any assistance from a curling iron.
Straight
You don't always need a hair straightener to get straight hair. I find that the key is really to (even though it's not great for your hair...), brush it flat while it's wet.
Most green changes require a desire to get back to your natural roots and doing what comes naturally to your hair will always be the green way!
