For a lot of people these days, the idea of a tan comes along with some unhealthy connotations. And why shouldn't it? I mean, skin cancer is on the rise and there's not too much good that comes along with the rays from tanning booths. Meanwhile, sun blocks and self-tanning lotions aren't exactly made from the best stuff on earth. It seems as though the answer would be for everyone to simply be OK with their own skin color. However, that's not the case for many people out there and even for those who are OK with their skin, it's still important that we protect our skin. So what is the answer?

Luckily, there are a few good answers.

There are eco-friendly sun blocks out there. www.hippyshopper.com can help you with finding these sun blocks. Whew!

In addition to eco-friendly sun blocks, there are also some eco-friendly self-tanning lotions out there. Smart Shield makes some lotions that are self-tanning and filled with vitamins.

And if you just can't give up the tanning bed, there are luckily more eco-friendly tanning salons all over the country these days. They are solar powered many times and filled with green products. If you've got to tan in a bed, try to find one of these new, progressive salons.

Tanning simply isn't the most healthy past time out there. Luckily, there are ways to make it more healthy than it has been in the past.
