Kerry

Kerry is a 33-year-old opera singer on the edge of a flourishing career. She came to the city seven years ago and is now on the brink of success, meeting with world-class conductors and high-powered managers, and running around town auditioning for roles. When Kerry performs she sounds terrific, the trouble is she looks like she's just come off the farm. The raw ingredients for the What Not To Wear team? Balloon-like sweaters, ill-fitting pants, 99-cent panties, and "virgin" hair that has never been cut or colored. Her friends and husband know that Kerry has a killer voice and a personality to match, but are in agreement that she needs a serious fashion overhaul. Can fashion stylists Wayne Scot Lukas and Stacy London - with help from hair stylist Nick Arrojo and makeup artist Carmindy Bowyer - manage to help the opera diva hit the high note in fashion?

"Like the clothes that we showed you on the mannequinm, those are the highest priced clothes that we can find. What we're asking you to do is look at the characteristics of the clothes, because you can find them at any price - just like you can find a great evening dress for $159 and you can can find it for $5000 at Prada." - stylist Stacy London advising Kerry

Kerry's Rules and Shopping Details

Kerry's Rules:

1. Wayne and Stacy showed Kerry a fitted, short coat to replace her oversized, shapeless, grey swing coat.

2. With it, they gave her an example of a fitted, turtle neck with a thinner texture than the heavy, shapeless knits that she had been wearing. Thinner textures, with a more form-fitting shape, are more flattering with ...

3. A longer, wider trouser. Get rid of the ankle-length, straight trousers.

4. They also showed her a mid-length dress with a more flattering cut: an empire waistline, a draped, A-line shape, in a fabric that doesn't cling but floats off the body. A light cardigan could be worn with it.

5. For evening wear, look for a full length black dress with wider straps. It could be worn with a shawl. (Kerry had previously been wearing strapless and deep, V-neck dresses).
