Shannon

Shannon, 28, works as a telephone salesperson, but she's about to leave her desk and come face to face with her customers. Her colleagues are worried that Shannon won't be making commission unless she looks more professional. Shannon thinks her collection of whimsical socks give her individuality. She's also been known to match her outfits to her socks, and that's not how Stacy and Clinton think she should be putting outfits together.

They plan to trash her socks and get Shannon into clothes that will make a good first impression on her clients. Shannon has a question for make up artist Carmindy - how can she make her eyes look like they have lids? Hairstylist Nick Arrojo creates a style that compliments Shannon's broad features and looks sleek and professional.

Shannon's Rules and Mannequins

Mannequin #1 (Work Look):

Rules:

• Use brighter colors closer to the face. Avoid washed out, neutral tones that are too close to the skin tone, and wash out the face.
• The outfit matches the khaki coat with the pale grey pants, and then use a brighter color on the shirt and shoes to make certain colors pop.
• You can mix and match neutrals very easily like khakis and greys - then have a bright color to tie everything together.
• Match the shoes of a similar palette to another color in the wardrobe. These colors don't have to exactly match but should be of the same palette, and then have neutrals as rest of the outfit (for a sophisticated work look).
• A black leather bag is a good work accessory, as it goes with everything, and pulls everything together.
• The pants have a wider waistband that sits lower on the waist which is better for a bigger bum.
• Look for flat front pants without pockets for a smoother, more flattering line, and if there are back pockets, make sure they don't have flaps, as that only makes the butt look bigger.
• Very important to look at shapes and proportions when buying jackets. For coats, don't get anything too long (below knee), and for blazers, nothing that hits above the hip (and draws more attention to the butt).

Rules:

• Contrasting colors are ok if tempered with neutrals (i.e. tangerine and blue if paired with brown).
• Use shoes that don't match as long as the shoe is from the same color palette - since the shoe is a further distance from the "matching" color of the shirt.
• The darker the denim, the better for wearing to the office.
• Look for jackets that hit at the top of the hip, which are more flattering (not above the hip/waist). Look for a waistline that is even higher than the natural waist (not quite an empire), but around mid to top of rib cage, more flattering to lower body.
• The keyhole neckline in the shirt brings attention to the face and the upper body.
• Have a brighter color shirt by the face when using neutrals like chocolate instead of beige/khaki palette (which wash out the face).

Rules:

• Using palettes like lemon, lavender and blue are good when wanting to mix different patterns.
• Look for a fuller shirt with a fitted waist (A-line is good) if you have a bigger butt or hips. This draws the fabric away from that area.
• When coordinating pieces, the skirt can pick up similar colors as in the jacket or blouse, but it doesn't have to perfectly match. It just has to "go" together.
• Look for bows that are on the side rather than in the front for a more flattering line (a front bow pulls all the attention to the crotch and stomach area).
• When using several colors, put things together in a way that is not super complicated, but flows.
• Look for things that are more feminine - it will flatter the curves in the body when you have a large butt or hips.

Hair Process:

1. Hair Cut: First, the bulk of the hair was cut off to establish the general shape. Then, the hair was re-cut with a combination of scissor and razor cutting to create a sexy, choppy, shaggy look.

2. Color: Shannon was given three highlights, using Wella 12/1, 9/1 and blonde lightening cream. Once the highlights were finished, the hair was toned using Wella Colortouch 10/01 to keep the hair nice and cool and ashy with added sheen.

3. Finish: Shannon's hair was blow dried smooth with KMS Silker Therapu Plus and KMS Stay Medium hold mousse for hold and body. If she wants a curly look, she can apply KMS Curl Control Creme and let hair dry naturally.
