Kate Martin was born into the business. After swearing never to go into an estate career, she is now thrilled about the change of heart. As store manager of The Perfect Thing, her mother Judy's high-end consignment boutique just outside of Chicago, Kate loves meeting clients, hearing their stories and the never-ending education it continues to provide. And while working alongside her mother and grandmother, Kate refers to the trio as "historians of Grandma's attic!"

With the philosophy that things simply aren't made the way they used to be, Kate loves letting potential clients learn that just because it's old doesn't mean its bad. She delights in seeing potentially valuable items that clients find in their garages, attics and at yard sales. Kate asserts, "People of my generation don't understand how painstakingly things were produced before the technological age. We used to actually make things with our hands and the progression of materials they did use can tell the story of our existence!"

Kate studied appraisal practice, theory and methodology, as well as art and residential contents at the International Society of Appraisers. She is currently working toward her CAPP certification.
